You may have noticed

that we haven't had a Tuesday trip for a while. Although we are beginning to get back into our usual routine post Christmas, the cold weather has encouraged us to stay in [down to -4 earlier today!]
However we decided yesterday, as the sun was shining, to go out to the Hillier Gardens - partly to visit this, [a PDF, be warned] partly for a walk in the Winter Garden - and partly for tea and cake in the cafe.
The exhibition is very good - some unusual exhibits and plenty to buy at very reasonable prices. It was nice to see one of my contemporary textiles tutors, Terrie Hitchcock there, and to see her work, which I haven't seen before.
The hand spun knitting yarn shown in the link was absolutely luscious but as 2009 is destashing year I restricted myself to some roving for felting and two of Terrie's postcards.
The Winter Garden was beautiful in the setting sun and provided several images for the daily picture, starting with this one. I neglected to note what type of tree it was - but isn't the colour and texture of the bark wonderful? Turned clockwise it has a landscape-like look.
After getting cold in the gardens it was great to go inside and get warm in the cafe over tea and excellent chocolate cake. Just my sort of outing, - some textiles, some inspirational photos and tea and cake ...
