Pauline Burbidge’s talk last night was excellent – some beautiful images, a clear exposition of her working methods, and no art speak. It was entitled ‘Creative Links and Processes in my Quiltworks’ – and was perfect for someone who has to write about artist’s ‘preparatory sketches and designs in contrast to the finished item’. After a day’s rather dispiriting drawing on Wednesday it was great to see Burbidge’s drawings – lively, inspirational, perfect for her purposes - but definitely not heavily detailed pencil drawings of the sort I thought are what drawings should be. A bit of a ‘doh’ moment for at least one of her audience.
Speaking of drawings – this is one of mine, inspired by Peter Eugene Ball – but in the Gormley book because his figures seem to me to have a similar archetypal quality.
And some eucalyptus leaves which somehow seemed to complement it.
